The Blue Wave has done it again. In the FCIAC tournament, the Wave eliminated the number No. 1 seeded — and previously unbeaten — Staples Wreckers in the quarterfinals. This time, in the second round of the state Class LL tournament,  the No. 18 seed Darien girls varsity soccer team (12-6-2) destroyed another team’s perfect season by beating the previously undefeated No. 2 seed Suffield Wildcats (15-1-1).

After suffering a 5-0 loss to New Canaan in the FCIAC girls soccer semifinals on Oct. 29, a dominant Darien girls soccer squad rebounded to shut out the Brien McMahon Senators 2-0 in the first round of the Class LL state tournament on Monday.

Coming into the 2018 season, Darien field hockey coach Maureen Minicus knew she had some rebuilding to do. After graduating 12 seniors last year, only a few starters from last season remained.

Talk about starting the season off with a bang. After losing the Class L state championship to Staples last fall 1-0, the Wave will face the Wreckers in their season opener at home on Thursday.

Darien boys’ tennis was the team runner-up at this year’s Class L State Tournament, behind team champion Daniel Hand. It’s the highest finish for the Wave since 2015, when Darien was runner-up to New Canaan.

On a blisteringly hot day when the temperatures hovered around 90 degrees, the third-seeded Darien girls’ tennis team stormed past sixth-seeded Greenwich in the quarterfinals of the CIAC Class L state tournament, defeating the Cardinals 5-2 at home Tuesday.

On one of the few sunny days in an otherwise wet and rainy season, the No. 1 seed Darien High School girls tennis team defeated No. 4 seed New Canaan in the FCIAC semifinals Monday at Darien High School. And while Darien ultimately won 6-1, it was a match, both coaches remarked, where the final score did not tell the whole story.

Following a perfect 16-0 regular season, including nine shutouts, the Darien girls tennis team heads into the FCIAC championship this week seeking its third straight FCIAC title. According to Coach Anne-Lise Brown, however, the road will not be easy, despite Darien’s dominance all spring.

After defeating Staples 5-2 in the regular season, the Darien Girls Tennis team lost to the Wreckers in the FCIAC championship final by a score of 4-3. It was an echo of last year, when the Wave suffered its only loss of the regular season to their perennial rival, only to go on to beat them in the FCIAC finals.

After going 7-2 on the regular season, including a 7-0 record in the FCIAC East division, the Darien boys track and field team is headed to the FCIAC championships on Monday, May 21, at Southern Connecticut State University.

With two matches left in the regular season, the Darien High School girls tennis team is undefeated rolling into the FCIAC tournament, which starts next Wednesday, May 16.

This spring, the Darien girls tennis team is looking forward to new beginnings. For the past two years, after winning back-to-back FCIACs, the Wave has been disqualified from the state championship for using an ineligible player, a mistake coach Anne-Lise Brown said will not be repeated this year. “The girls are all over each other to make sure it does not happen again,” Brown said.

It may have come up short in the FCIAC tournament, but don’t count the Darien girls ice hockey team out just yet.
